Age: 24 years Distilled: October 1982 Bottled: May 2007 Region: Islay ABV: 59,6 % Outturn: 509 Cask Type: Sherry Butt Price per Litre: 221,43 € Bottled by: The Whisky Fair
Tasting Notes: On the nose, there`s bacon, smoked ham, tar as well as some raisiny aroma combined with green & yellow fruits (apples, pears?). The palate is intense & oily with well-integrated sherryflavours, smoke and tar (again), followed by a "medicinal", sticky sweetness. Due to the maturation in an ex-sherry cask this whisky is rather different from our previous bottlings of Port Ellen, but nevertheless on a pleasantly high drinking level. A pity that this distillery was closed in 1983 and so the numerous young & concentrated spirits of the old days will never return. Fortunately, the quality of some casks increase with age, adding depth & complexity. This one appears to be one of this kind.
